What is the Illinois Clean Energy Dashboard?

The Illinois Clean Energy Dashboard is a data website for residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to explore the progress made in the state’s renewable energy development. By presenting complex metrics through intuitive data visualizations, the Dashboard website allows interested parties to view key trends in renewable energy generation, geographical energy capacities, and more. With a focus on equity, the Dashboard website is designed to convey the story of Illinois’ renewable energy development.

Phase I key features include:

• Static visualizations demonstrating progress and growth across seven different categories of data and information:
  • Electricity Generation Mix
  • Midwest Solar and Wind Capacity
  • IPA Initiatives
  • IPA-Supported Competitive Procurements
  • Illinois Shines
  • Illinois Solar for All
  • Equity
• Dedicated webpage where IPA datasets used in the visualizations are available in .xlsx format for download and export
• Frequently asked questions and answers about the Dashboard website
• Data Glossary, which includes a collection of terms and definitions used in datasets and visualizations

Phase II will feature seven interactive dashboards, accessible through both desktop and mobile devices.

• Showcases the renewable energy development within and outside of the Illinois Renewable Portfolio Standard.
  
• Conveys the progress of renewable energy development with data visualizations.
  
• Serves as an educational tool to provide easier-to-access answers to questions that arise most frequently.
  
• Educates stakeholders on the IPA's role in the clean energy transition.

The Illinois Clean Energy Dashboard was developed by Illinois Power Agency staff with support from the University of Chicago Applied Data Fellowship Program. The IPA extends it's gratitude to everyone who contributed to this project, including former IPA employees and all data source providers.
