What is the Illinois Clean Energy Dashboard?

Illinois is transforming its clean energy sector, and the Illinois Clean Energy Dashboard helps users track that progress. Designed for residents, businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders, the Dashboard brings together interactive visuals, maps, and downloadable data to illustrate the state’s renewable energy transition, including renewable energy programs and procurements, and equity initiatives.

What does the Dashboard do?

The Dashboard turns complex energy data into interactive visual stories. Users can:

  • Track renewable energy development both within and outside of the Illinois Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).

  • Explore how renewable energy programs and policies contribute to the state’s clean energy goals.

  • Explore electricity generation trends across Illinois and the Midwest. 

  • Access downloadable datasets for closer analysis.

  • Learn more about the IPA's role in the clean energy transition.

Who developed the Dashboard?

The Illinois Clean Energy Dashboard was developed by staff at the Illinois Power Agency (IPA), with support from the University of Chicago Applied Data Fellowship Program. The IPA extends its gratitude to all project contributors, including former IPA employees, and data providers. 

The Dashboard reflects the Agency’s commitment to transparency, public engagement, and accessible data. The IPA continues to enhance the Dashboard, providing robust and up-to-date data that enables users to explore trends, understand program impacts, and make informed decisions about Illinois’ clean energy landscape.

Why does the Dashboard matter?

Illinois’ clean energy landscape is complex, with a range of programs and policies influencing how electricity is generated and distributed. The Dashboard helps users navigate this complexity by providing clear, visual representations of key data. By presenting both summary metrics and detailed visualizations, the Dashboard supports informed understanding, encourages public engagement, and highlights the state’s ongoing transition toward a cleaner, more equitable energy future.
