Illinois Shines
The Illinois Shines program (statutorily defined as the Adjustable Block Program) supports the development of community solar projects and on-site solar, also referred to as distributed generation. Initially created through the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), Illinois Shines makes going solar more affordable for residents and businesses across Illinois.
The program currently supports six project categories:
- Small Distributed Generation (Small DG)
- Large Distributed Generation (Large DG)
- Traditional Community Solar (TCS)
- Community-Driven Community Solar (CDCS)
- Public Schools
- Equity Eligible Contractor (EEC)
The Illinois Shines program provides incentives to develop new distributed solar and community solar projects through contracts to sell Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) generated by participating projects to Illinois utilities. RECs are the environmental attributes associated with electricity production and are bought and sold separately from the electricity itself.
With valuable incentives, robust consumer protections, and an emphasis on equity, Illinois Shines helps ensure everyone in Illinois can play a role in its clean energy future.
