IPA Initiatives
Illinois has made significant strides in transitioning to renewable energy, largely due to a strong Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). Due to the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), which took effect in 2017, and the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), which took effect in 2021, Illinois experienced a significant increase in the rate of new solar project development. Additionally, comprehensive state policies including CEJA have put diversity, equity, and inclusion at the forefront of the clean energy economy. Today, disinvested communities that have historically faced systemic environmental and economic burdens are being provided increased access to the state’s clean energy future.
